I have a domain with 32 bit win 2003 DC's. I am adding a 64 bit 2008 R2 server.
I have run adprep /forestprep I have run adprep /domainprep I have run adprep /forestprep /gpprep All on the existing DC's from the 32 bit 2008 R2. Dcpromo on my new 64bit 2008R2 server still reports I need to run adprep /forestprep. I have seen postings saying this is due to the incorrect version of adprep being run which makes sense, but to me it looks like I have run the correct one.
I must surely run the adprep from a 2008 R2 disk to prep the schema for this AD version. The only difference is that I had to run from the 32 bit disk and my new server is 64bit so comes from a different install disk. Anyone any ideas what I should do. Is there a schema version number that we can detect to see what version I have set it to.
The adprep executable file is stored in the sources adprep folder on the Windows Server 2008 installation DVD. It’s stored in the support adprep folder on the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation DVD. I trying to evaluate windows server 2008, I have install it in a new server to test the os. Once i the server join the domain, i try to give a dc role but as i dcpromo.exe it goes to the proccess but i must adprep /forestprep the systems.
